These are the walking tours you can choose from:
Downtown New York - Between Artists and Immigrants
A walk through Greenwich Village, SoHo, Little Italy and
Chinatown.
We enter the cultures and subcultures, the old meeting
places of writers such as Ginsberg and Burroughs, the coffee houses, the bohemian
atmosphere of the Village. From there we take on SoHo with its unique cast-iron nineteenth
century facades, catch a glimpse of the world famous art galleries and designer shops. Now
the contrast: the diversity of this unique city appears in the neighborhoods of Chinatown
and Little Italy. The Walking Tours last typically about 2 hours.
Wall Street
- Old New York
The New York Stock Exchange, Banks and more Banks, Battery Park with Castle Clinton, a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty over New York Harbor,
Woolworth Building, Federal Hall, Trinity Church, a quick view of the Brooklyn Bridge, the site of the World-Trade-Center. Little old buildings and huge high rises next to each other!
East Village/Lower
East Side Tour: We follow the tracks of former immigrants in this area: Germans, Ukranians, Jews,
Irish, Italians, Chinese and Latinos to name a few. This tour picks up where the Downtown
Tour left off: the unique history of the immigrants, who made this part of town their
home. We take a look into the history of these working class districts, see the tenements
in which they lived, the old synagogues, and the shops in which they worked and
patronized. In this old melting pot a mixture of old and new takes shape: the funky
fashion boutiques, tattoo parlors, and various other hip joints. This view behind the
scenes lets the history and diversity of the "Big Apple" come to life.
Over the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn Heights... ‘The Bridge’ used to be a wonder of the world when it opened in 1883. Nowadays it offers a unique view on the Manhattan skyline and New York harbor. Brooklyn Heights is one of the most attractive neighborhoods in all of the city, not least because of its famous Esplanade overlooking the East River. (Please be aware that in the cold season, it can be extremely breezy. Should you have booked this walk and it turns out to be too windy and cold, we can always opt for the Wall Street tour instead.)
Uptown to Harlem .. .old neglect and
new hope, beautiful residential streets (Strivers' Row or Astor Row) and the history of jazz are all a part of this
most fascinating part of town in northern Manhattan. In Harlem you will find City College where Colin Powell went to study as well the stories of Alexander Hamilton, James Baldwin and Martin Luther King. |
